In Loving Memory of Gerri Lloyd

Geraldine Mary Lloyd Gummer passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, after a heroic eleven-year battle with cancer.

Born in Astoria, Queens, Gerri was a true New Yorker, even after spending the last decades of her life in Connecticut. The fourth of five children born to Patrick and Peggy (Reilly) Lloyd, Gerri was proud to be the daughter of two Irish immigrants and loved being a part of a big family. She never forgot her roots and honored her Irish heritage throughout her life.

Gerri and her sister Elizabeth weren't just sisters; they were "Irish twins." Their mom Peggy took great pride in dressing them in matching outfits. Gerri and Liz were students at Baruch College, sometimes attending the same classes. They spent countless hours together, shopping, traveling, laughing, and supporting each other in innumerable ways.

Gerri worked overtime to put herself through school and finish college in three years so she could get a head start on her career. Always a bit of a rebel, Gerri broke from her siblings' tradition of working for ConEd and spent her career with IBM. She traveled the world, and even was one of IBM's representatives at the Atlanta Olympic Games.

While on a ski trip in Vermont, Gerri met Dan Gummer, the love of her life. No doubt, Gerri's bright blue eyes caught Dan's attention. It didn't take them long to realize they were meant for each other. They were married in 1995, and not long after they created their own ski team: their children Megan, Bobby, and Patrick.

Gerri was a loving, proud, and fun mom. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and never missed an Irish dance feis. She loved being a hockey mom, spending hours at cold ice rinks holding a cup of coffee to warm her hands. She made every holiday special, decorating the house and creating family traditions. She supported her children in whatever interests they developed – whether it was building a fortress made of Legos or catching the biggest fish in the Sound. She instilled in them the importance of having a good work ethic, a curious mind, and an independent spirit.

Gerri loved all things outdoors: whether with her family on the ski slopes in the winter, the beaches of Nantucket in the summer, or just sitting on their deck enjoying the sunshine. She was a devoted gardener, decorating her home inside and out with flowers. Gerri was a perfectionist with an eye for design, leaving places more beautiful than she had found them. Committed to making positive changes in her community, she volunteered her time and effort, serving on the local homeowners' association board and landscaping committee. She had a seemingly endless reserve of energy and a never-quit spirit. Her family and friends will have forever the example of her remarkable courage, fierce determination, and love for life.

Gerri was predeceased by her parents and her brother Patrick Lloyd. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dan; their children Megan, Bobby, and Patrick; her sister Liz (Lloyd) Gray and her husband John; her brother Frank Lloyd; her brother Thomas Lloyd, his wife Zina, and their children Thomas and Angela; her sisters-in-law Dana Lloyd and Katie Gummer; her cousins here, in Ireland, and Canada; and all the friends and people whose lives she touched along the way.

A memorial service will be held at St. John Church in Darien, Connecticut on September 10, 2022, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Gerri's family asks that contributions in her memory be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance https://ocrahope.org.
